Why I Always Recommend Travel Insurance

I always recommend purchasing travel insurance. It can help protect your investment if you need to cancel your trip and provides 24/7 support in case of unexpected situations while traveling. Health insurance policies do not always provide coverage when traveling out of the country, and in some cases may not provide adequate coverage when traveling out of state. Depending on the travel insurance policy, coverage may include medical emergencies, trip interruptions, lost baggage, missed connections, and more.

Travel insurance can be helpful in the following situations:

  • If you get sick and can’t travel

  • If a family member has an emergency and you need to cancel your trip

  • If your baggage is lost and you need to purchase items while traveling

  • If your passport is lost or stolen

  • If you get injured on your trip

  • If your trip is delayed or you miss a connection

Your travel insurance provider can also often provide emergency assistance such as:

  • Providing referrals to local clinics, doctors, pharmacies, and hospitals

  • Delivering prescriptions or eyeglasses

  • Providing translation services

  • Assisting with lost travel documents

  • Arranging emergency medical evacuation

Depending on the policy, you may need to purchase travel insurance within a certain number of days of your initial trip deposit to receive certain time-sensitive benefits, such as a waiver for pre-existing medical conditions.

I’ve seen firsthand how helpful travel insurance can be if there’s an emergency while traveling. And as someone with a chronic illness, I’m always aware that I may need medical care on a trip. I always purchase travel insurance when traveling out of the country, and lately I’ve been purchasing it for domestic trips as well. The peace of mind is worth it.

Travel insurance can feel overwhelming, but I’m happy to provide a quote that fits your trip and needs.
